Types of Editing

Developmental editing

Developmental editing is the first stage of editing and is usually applied to a first or rough draft. Its is recommended to get a developmental edit prior to passing the manuscript on to beta readers. Some authors get a developmental edit to help recover from writer’s block, or are looking for a fresh view. In these cases, the manuscript may not be finished. Many authors change the manuscript after a developmental edit. At this stage, the focus is on story, flow, pacing, plot, and content. We give your manuscript a full edit with a beta read.

When we are done, your manuscript, will be ready for a line edit.

ESL (English as a Second Language) editing is when an editor reviews a manuscript for idioms and regional dialects. The goal is to smooth out the writing so it sounds like the author’s first language is English. If English is your second language, and you’re in need of an editor to smooth out your vernacular, you may be in need of an ESL edit.
